Description

Öllöv® horseshoes is a revolutionary rubber hoof shoe / hoof shoe for more shock absorption or damping of forces, more blood circulation and the prevention of slipping on slippery surfaces.

Duval Products BV is now an official dealer of Öllöv® Rubber hoof shoes. (Price is per pair)

Öllöv® horseshoes has a revolutionary product in the field of hoof care. The first model was sold around the world about 20 years ago mainly for horses that were used on the street to prevent slipping and to provide protection for the horses. But these rubber hoof boots are also suitable for horses in rehabilitation of injuries. In 2017 they launched the new model SoftStep, also suitable for sports horses. It has more pattern to also get grip on grass. The shoe has a great roll-off both in the toe and in the heel. It is 6 mm steel, 9 mm rubber. (soon there will also be a model with 6 mm aluminum core)

Model DuraStep came in 2020 is specifically for horses that walk a lot on asphalt and the street. The model has no pattern and 6 mm steel, 12 mm rubber for maximum durability.
They currently supply horseback police forces all over the world with both models of the rubber hoof boots.

Benefits

  • Excellent for horses recovering from various back, leg and hoof problems. A softer, shock and vibration absorbing shoe provides relief and promotes faster recovery. The Öllöv Softstep has been used extensively in various rehabilitation situations for over 20 years with great success.
  • The shoe maintains the natural blood flow in the hoof (unlike a steel horseshoe where the blood vessels close faster due to the vibrations in the hoof) and promotes healthy growth of the hoof.
  • Positive for the hoof mechanism. (Read more in the study on hoof expansion in horses with iron horseshoes versus öllöv rubber shoes Main mechanism study öllöv rubber shoe at SLU).
  • The sliding phase of the rubber shoe is closer to the unshod hoof on most surfaces than that of a steel horseshoe. (Read more about sliding phase testing in the attachments below.)
  • The rubber absorbs both shock and vibration for extra comfort, well-being and health.
Dampens the maximum load to which the horse is exposed, even on soft surfaces such as fibers (10%) and grass (12%) (see details below in the scientific studies appendices).
  • Suitable for horses with flatter hooves that may tear quickly for more grip and can reduce hoof cracks due to better shock absorption.
  • Rubber hoof shoes have a muffled sound on stone surfaces, are easy to install by a farrier and usually last 8 weeks (depending on the intensity of use/type of surfaces).

  • Provides excellent grip on surfaces such as asphalt, ice, grass and concrete, gives the horse a safe feeling and promotes a full stride with every step.
  • Lots of extra safety for loading, unloading, transporting etc.
  • Extra comfort, less shocks and vibrations can promote more power in the gaits in some horses
  • Usually no snow holes are needed because snow does not stick to the rubber.

For whom is this hoof shoe interesting?

In principle, this hoof shoe can be used for any horse, but the Softstep model is particularly suitable

  • Horses that are prone to injury, horses that are insecure on slippery surfaces or slip easily or if you want shoes that are closer to the natural hoof instead of regular hoof shoes.

The DuraStep model is more suitable for

  • Mounted police, horses that spend a lot of time outside on asphalt or hilly areas. This gives you extra safety through improved grip on asphalt, fewer injuries, improved well-being for all horses that work on hard surfaces such as asphalt for a long time. Can prevent slipping on slippery surfaces in almost all cases.
There are already many riders who ride at national but also international top level with this hoof fitting in jumping, dressage, eventing / endurance or polo.
  • Jumping: dampens maximum load, also on fibers 10% grass 12%. The shoe is wider than normal shoes and gives extra surface for the hoof, offers grip where necessary, especially on grass.
  • Dressage: absorbs maximum load, offers extra comfort and strength. Extra safety when training outside the arena or on grass surfaces.
  • Sports / recreational riding: perfect for switching between different surfaces, hard or soft. Provides grip over obstacles, comfort and strength in dressage.
  • Endurance: The extra grip ensures a steady pace downhill and uphill on the terrain. The softer shoes with extra comfort and blood flow ensure less heat stressed tendons and ligaments
  • Trotters: dampens maximum load, provides grip, extra circulation promotes cooler legs. Extra gentle for young horses in heavy training, promotes healthy legs and hooves.
  • Eventing: benefits for jumping, dressage and on the field. The extra grip is perfect for changing different soils.
  • Icelandic horses: extra comfort promotes better gaits in demanding movements. Extra safety and comfort for trail riding on all terrains.
  • Games on horseback such as Polo: extra grip, less studs needed.

For farriers

Shape, edit, grind and change just like ordinary steel shoes. 6 mm steel core

A new generation of rubber shoe

This new generation of rubber hoof boots has a different forged steel core than previous versions. Now there is no big difference in how you work our rubber shoe compared to the regular steel irons.

No special tools are required, but make sure to carefully deepen / galvanize the nails with a hollow pipe (pritchel), bolt or similar. For farriers who shed a lot of Öllöv and want to make clinching easier, there is an Öllöv clinger with a pin to make sure the nails stay in place while clinching. Once you get used to it, it takes almost as much time as normal shoeing.

You can grind down rubber on the sides without compromising the rest of the iron and it is an advantage to remove some rubber from the clips for a tighter fit.

You will certainly notice how quiet it remains when you work with this rubber hoof shoe and also how relaxed the horses are with the silent shoeing.
