Description
Magnesium contributes to several functions in the horse's body. Magnesium has a positive influence on the functioning of the muscles and the nervous system and the mineral is good for the state of mind. In addition, magnesium is good for concentration and plays a role in maintaining flexible muscles and strong bones.
Magnesium Glycinate?
A commonly sold magnesium is the oxide or citrate. But there is also Magnesium Glycinate. Magnesium glycinate and magnesium citrate are both organic magnesium compounds. Magnesium glycinate is bound to the amino acid Glycine. As a result, the body sees magnesium as an amino acid and will only be absorbed in the small intestine through amino acid receptors. This chelate form ensures better stability of the mineral and increases its absorption in the body. A major advantage of magnesium glycinate is that it does not react quickly with other substances in the gastrointestinal tract, making it less likely to cause digestive complaints, such as diarrhea, compared to magnesium citrate. Additionally, magnesium bisglycinate is often praised for its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, allowing it to better reach the brain and potentially have a positive effect on cognitive functions.
We do not recommend using magnesium all year round as support for the muscles, but for occasional use. Usually, if feed management is in order and you give a supplement such as Multipower or Green Caviar as a supplement for the muscles, additional feeding of magnesium is not immediately necessary.
For example, in the following situations:
- if you think that your horse may have a deficiency of this or if this has already been diagnosed by a veterinarian
- when your horse has worked hard and you expect that your horse or pony may experience muscle pain.
- your horse quickly suffers from (muscle) tension

Very happy with this product! My horse has a slight cramp in the hind leg, I have been giving this magnesium form for a number of months now and it has clearly decreased considerably. He first had to get used to the taste, but after a week of persevering, he ate his bowl cleanly.
